Winter Competition To North Linwood
By beating Waimairl in the final round by 7 games to 6. North Linwood won the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s 1957 men’s winter competition. Final points were: North Linwood 11. Waimairl 9, Woolston 8, Avonside 8, Opawa 5, Elmwood 3. Results were:— North Linwood v. Waimairl Singles.—T. Harneiss lost to C. Liddell, 6-8, 4-6; J. Beatty beat J. Beddis, 6-2, 6-3; R. Innes beat A. Black, 6-4, 6-3: B. Prisk lost to A. Knight. 2-6, 4-6. Doubles.—Harneiss and Beatty beat Liddell and Black. 6-1, 6-2; Innes and Prisk lost to Beddis and Knight, 6-i4. 2-6, 4-6. North Linwood won by 7 sets to 6. Opawa v. Elmwood Singles.—M. Crozier beat R. Christie, 6-2, 7-5: R. Bymie beat G. Evans, 6-0, 6-0. Doubles.—N. Baas and T. Jackson beat D. Jamieson and D. Walker, 6-8, 6-1, 6-1; Crozier and Bymie beat Christie and Evans, 6-2, 4-3. Opawa won by 4 matches to 0. Woolston v. Avonside Avonside won by default.
