Young men and women can earn attractive salaries as commercial teachers, after completing a special one-year training course at the Wellington Technical College. Some experience in office or commercial work is desirable and preference will be given to applicants, both men and women between the ages of 21 and 30 years. Trained teachers or teachers in training are not eligible to apply. On completion of the course, trainees should find no difficulty in receiving appointments in postprimary or the secondary departments of District High Schools. The training programme, which extends over one academic year, observes the normal school holidays. Trainees are paid as follows, men £570 per annum, women £495 per annum. Married allowance and allowances to ex-service personnel are available to those eligible. On appointment to teaching positions trainees will be paid according to the teachers’ salary scale. This provides for variations in commencing salaries according to age, sex, qualifications, and experience, and goes up by steps to £ll4O for men and £1065 for women for non-competi-tive positions, and to £1365 for men and £1295 for women in competitive positions, plus marriage and qualification allowances where eligible.
