HEATHCOTE TOW PLANNING

Council Approves Report

A report by the town planning committee of the Heathcote County Council on the use of land in several areas of the county was adopted by the council on Friday evening. The report recommended that the Mount Pleasant area below Madeley road be classified as residential and that above Madeley road and including Morten Settlement be classified as rural. It recommended that in the Hillsborough riding, commencing at the quarry at the corner of Opawa road and Port Hills road, a three-chain residential strip b» continued to the boundary of Glenmore Bricks, Ltd., and the land at present occupied by the workings of Glenmore Bricks, Ltd., be classified as Industrial “C.” The area to the north of Port Hills road from Opawa road to the county boundary should be classified as residential, as should the area on the county boundary along the east side of Glenelg Spur road down to the present workings of Glenmore Bricks, Ltd. The report said that on Rapaki road from the county boundary there was an existing subdivision, and residential development should be limited to this point at present. Market Garden Areas

In the area between Rapaki road and the county boundary on the west it would not be practicable to conserve the small remaining market gardening areas, and it was therefore recommended that the whole of this area be classified as residential to a line five chains past the end of Hillsborough terrace. The area bounded by the Cashmere Sanatorium, Huntsbury avenue, and Centaurus road, although undeveloped because of lack of roading, was more suited for residential purposes than any other, and it was recommended that it be classified as such with the exception of the properties oi Murphy Brothers, Ltd., and Brightlings, Ltd., which should be Industrial “S” to the extent of their present workings. Bowenvale valley, the report said, was suitable for residential purposes, all amenities being available. It was therefore recommended that a part of Cashmere riding lying to the north of a line running along the boundaries of the present subdivisions on the east side of Bowenvale. thence from the end of Bowenvale in a direct line to the Sign of the Takahe, thence along the rear boundaries of all properties down Dyers Pass .road to its junction with Hackthorne road, thence along the rear boundaries of all properties down Hackthorne road to its junction with Cashmere road, be classified as residential, with the exceptions of present school sites, present hospital and convalescent home sites, and commercial and recreation sites, the rest of the riding to be classified as rural.
