SERVICE AWARDS TO FIREMEN
Presentations Made At Lyttelton
Service awards were presented at the annual dance of the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade on Saturday evening. In presenting a 2S years gold star to the chief officer (Mr S. E. Carson), Mr J. Morrison, past-president of the United Fire Brigades’ Association, said Mr Carson was the third member of the Carson family to I hold the position of chief fire officer of the Lyttelton brigade. Mr W. Morris, chairman of the Lyttelton Fire Committee, presented service awards as follows: Third Officer C. J. Beckett, two years’ bar (21 years’ service), Fireman H. J. Register, 2 years’ bar (11 years’ service), Fireman W. Newitt, 2 years’ bar (seven years’ service). Secretary C. J. Ruth, two years’ bar (seven years’ service), Fireman W. Currie, three years certificate.
Mr Morris congratulated the brigade on its efficiency. The road tunnel, he said, would result in an increase in built-up areas around the harbour, giving the brigade a greater area to cover.
