CHURCH SCHOOLS' STAFFING
Appeal To Catholic i * Congregations (New Zealand Press Association) '• WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. ’ Roman Catholic parish priests in their churches today asked their parishioners to subscribe te a fund to finance the employment of lay teachers in the church’s schobls. They explained that at a meet* ing of .parish priests called to consider the problem of staffing the schools it had been agreed that Roman Catholic parents wanted their system of education to remain. To enable classes to remain at proper numbers, mort teachers would be required. These were not available in sufficient numbers from the religious orders, and so it was necessary to seek lay teachers. These would have to be paid salaries commensurate with what teachers could command outside of church schools, and so a special fund was necessary.
