Visit By Noted Geographer

New Zealand had made remarkable progress in the field of historical geography, said Dr. H. C. Darby, professor of geography at University College, London, who is in Christchurch under the auspices of the Nuffield Foundation to give a series of lectures entitled “The Changing English Landscape.” A noted historical geographer and author of several books on the subject. Dr. Darby has in the course of his work made a close study of the Doomsday Book, which, he said, gave a cross section of villages established about the time of William the Conqueror and afforded a basis for a study of the evolutionary processes that had taken place since.

Dr. Darby will be in Christchurch until September 13 and while here will give four lectures at Canterbury University College, and will confer with students and lecturers. He will later visit Dunedin, Wellington, and Auckland to give lectures at university colleges and branches of the New Zealand Geographical, Society.
