(Rec. 8 p.m.) ADELAIDE, Aug. 30. The Victorian golfer. Miss Burtta Cheney, today won the Australian women’s amateur golf championship, 1 up, in a thrilling contest with the Sydney player, June Gillespie. The finalists were square at the eighteenths Miss Cheney was 1 up at the thirty-fifth, and the last hole was halved. Throughout the match. Miss Cheney held a slight, edge because of her younger opponent’s lapses in putting. Taxi Association’s Tournament (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON. August 30. Competitors In the Dominion Taxi Golf Association’s annual fixture at the Lochiel links, Hamilton, included a party of 16 which flew from Christchurch and a party of II from Wellington, which came by cab. Begun as an annual/inter-centre match between Auckland, and Wellington, the fixture has been extended to become a national event, being held in a different centre each year. Wellington will be the venue next year. R. Sampson, of Hamilton, a 4handicap player, won the senior 72hole gross, his best round being a 75. The runner-up -was B. Collins, of Christchurch. The intermediate championship was won by M. Hennessy, of Christchurch. B. Varey, of Hamilton, was runner-up. Sampson won the Watts Sports Cup for the best round. R. Borman, of Hamilton, was successful In the junior championship, with K. Knight, of Christchurch, runner-up.
