RAILWAY WELFARE SOCIETY
Mutual Aid Scheme Planned
Legislation will be sought in the current session of Parliament to establish a railway welfare society, says the Railways Department’s annual report The report says the society will be representative of management and staff and will be modelled on similar societies in the Post and Telegraph Department and the Public Service. The objects will be "foster the spirit of mutual aid among railwaymen and women and to raise funds to provide financial assistance for members in difficulties due to sickness or misfortune.” It is hoped that the society will, in time, be able to establish dwellings suitable for holiday or convalescent purposes for members and their families.
