FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
Situation: A cold front in the central Tasman Sea is advancing towards New Zealand; a depression near Norfolk island is moving slowly south-eastwards. Forecast:— Canterbury: north-westerly winds inland and northeasterly on the coast, fresh in exposed places; rain in the western ranges, but weather otherwise fair to cloudy; moderate to mild day temperatures. Outlook: fair to cloudy. Marlborough: north-west winds, fresh in the sounds, elsewhere light; fait weather; mild afternoon temperatures. Outlook: fair to cloudy. West Coast: winds from a northerly quarter, fresh in exposed places; weather cloudy, with rain spreading from the south; moderate temperatures. Outlook: occasional showers.
