PITCAIRN ISLAND WELCOME
Songs Sung For Lord Cobham The people of Pitcairn Island gathered on the deck of the Rangitiki off their shores on Monday night to greet the future GovernorGeneral of New Zealand. Viscount Cobham, and Lady Cobham. Songs traditional to Pitcairn were sung to the visitors. The chief Magistrate. Mr Parkin Christian, told Lord and Lady Cobham that they had come into friendly waters on tbeir way to New Zealand. “We people of Pitcairn Island know New Zealand and its i friendly, helpful people well.” he said. “It is like a second home to us.
“We people of the island Inve cricket. You, too. are k cricketer. You will understand. tMreforF. wfiat we m6an whFri we say: Go in and play brigh* cricket, bold up your PfiS. TiXv? i lnfiifiS? and carry your bat.”
