Hooligans
Sir,—l was horrified to read this morning of the attack made by a gang of hooligans on traffic inspectors and policemen. One method of dealing with these cowards would be to make them turn out for training with one of our senior Rugby teams, preferably the one with the heaviest forwards; compel them to attend and take part in all the training. Shear them, too, of their lank, greasy hair and perhaps Samson’s story would be repeated. Perhaps we have all been too apathetic towards this behaviour, but when a riot can take place, as happened last right, the time is long overdue when the sternest methods should be used to eliminate this trouble-spot and these troublemakers from our midst.— Yours, etc., ALERT. August 21, 1957.
