SPY CHARGE DENIED

Stern’s Comment On Allegation

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PRAGUE. August 20.

Alfred Stern said at Prague today that the allegations that he and his wife, Martha Dodd, were Russian agents were aimed at “furthering the spy hysteria in the United States.”

The spy allegations were made before the Un-American Activities Committee of the United States House of Representatives by Boris Morros, a film director. In a prepared statement, Mr Stern said today that he had been briefly associated with Morros in 1944 in a small music publishing company. “I have not seen Morros since 1945,” he said. Mr Stern described the charge against himself and his wife as lies and accused Mr Morros of seeking publicity.

He added that he and his family had renounced United States citizenship at Mexico City two months ago and had taken up Paraguayan nationality.
