INFLUENZA IN AUCKLAND
Epidemic Spreads To North Shore
(New Zealand Press Association) . AUCKLAND, Aug. 21. Thirty per cent, of the population of Auckland will get influenza during the current epidemic, the Health Department estimates. Isolation of the virus has revealed that it is compatible with Asian influenza. The epidemic appears to have reached its peak in some places, particularly in the eastern side of the city. It has now crossed the harbour and is spreading among the population of the North Shore. Milkmen have collapsed on their rounds and school pupils have dropped at assembly. Most secondary schools have cancelled or abandoned sports fixtures this week. The Railways Department has been badly affected, shunting services being curtailed, and several goods services between Auckland and Frankton cancelled.
