PREPARATION TO MARRY
Talk Ry Mrs A. K. Warren
Sex education should be started for children at the toddler stage; it should be progressive, and questions should be answered clearly and concisely when asked, said Mrs A. K. Warren, Diocesan president of the Mothers’ Uniop, in a talk on preparing childi%n for marriage. ■ Mrs Warren, who was speaking to the evening branch of the St. Mary’s (Merivale) Mothers’ Union, said that the preparation of children for marriage should be one of body, mind and spirit. b Adolescents were surrounded by many dangers, and should be warned of the effects of alcohol on self-control, she said. Too Young British and American statistics showed that grave dangers could arise in a marriage when the partners were too youpg, she said. It was important that young persons should know the background of one another’s homes before becoming engaged.
Before marriage the girl should realise her domestic responsibilities, and the man should realise his responsibility for maintaining the home. Money matters should be thoroughly discussed before rhe wedding. The present generation of young persons was no more “vicious and bad’’ than preceding generations, and no less able to be understanding, loving and kind; but ’f a marriage now went wrong it was easier than ever before to break it, with the result that partners in marriage did not always make the necessary effort to hold it together, Mrs Warren said.
