Those of us who have home-for-lunchers know what a habit ten past twelve has of creeping up on us while our back is turned., It does not seem to matter in the summer because we can whisk on something with a salacf nature between hearing the front gate bang.and the footsteps round the house. This time of year it is a different matter for something hot is essential. The everready soup pot is' one solution; the toasted snack is another. With these, in a matter of seconds we can have a deliciously hot and savoury lunch, with variety absolutely endless. Set slices of bread to toast on one side while you see what inspiration will do in the way of coverings—bacon, cheese, bananas, apples, tomato, left over mince, hamburgers or sausages, luncheon sausage* Any of them may be used to produce interesting toasted snacks.- The following suggestions are all quick, easy and tasty. Grated Apple and Bacon Snack. —Grate half an apple or chop it off thinly with a knife. Mix with one rasher of bacon, cut, with scissors, into tiny pieces. Toast bread on one side, butter the untoasted side and pile on the mixture. Toast under the griller until “the bacon is cooked. Grated Cheese and Tomato Snacjc.— Mix gratpd cheese with tomato sauce, toast bread on one side, butter the untoasted side and spread with the mixture. Toast Long enough to heat through.

Toast until the cheese is bubbling and beginning to brown.
