SHOTGUN FIRED AT PLANE
Man Fined £5
(New Zealana Press Association) GORE, August 21.
John William Mcßride appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Gore today charged with firing a shotgun to the danger of an aerial topdressing pilot. He was fined £5. Senior-Sergeant C. A. G. McCrea told Mr G. A Nicholls, S.M., that the aeroplane was operating near Mcßride’s property and was making a run to come in and land to refuel.
The aircraft, travelling overhead at a low altitude, apparently got on Mcßride’s nerves to such an extent that he brought out a shot-gun and fired at the aeroplane. No pellets struck the aircraft.
Mr T. M. Brydone, counsel for Mcßride, said that Mcßride suffered from neurosis. The aeroplane was flying at. an altitude of between 150 and 200 ft, and the chances of pellets striking the aircraft were fairly remote.
It was fortunate that the aeroplane was as high as it was, said the Magistrate.
