Finalists In Snooker Tournament
'JpHE Canterbury snooker title was won last week by Tom Yesberg, of the Richmond Working Men’s Club, from Jim Pitcaithly, who plays for the Christchurch Working Men’s Club. It was Yesberg’s first championship, although it was his third final. He has also won the Canterbury billiards championship twice, and been runner-up once. Yesberg began playing billiards and snooker 16 years ago, when he was aged 15. His father, who lived at Waimate, was a good player, and interested hla IM in
the games. During the snooker championships -this year; Yesberg, who has a particularly deliberate and correct style, made a break of .77, the best of his career and the best of the tournament Pitcaithly did remarkably well to reach the final for it was his first appearance in competitive snooker for 10 years. So dubious was he of his ability that he also entered for the junior championship but sportingly withdrew when he found he was able to hold his own—and more—-in the ■onlnr tourname&t.
