The Australian and New Zealand Merchants’ and Shippers’ Association has agreed that the 15 per cent, increase on shipping freight 1-ates from Britain to New Zealand is justified, according to cabled advice received in Auckland from London. The information was given in a reply from Mr J. B. Westray, managing agent for the New Zealand Shipping and Conference Lines, to a protest cabled to Britain on Monday by Mr Gainor Jackson, president of the New Zealand Bureau of Importers. Mr Westray says the freight increase was fully discussed with the association, which agreed that it was justified "after careful inquiry into the evidence produced.” Mr Jackson said the bureau's executive would now consider what further action should be taken.
