Dwyer, has applied to have six telephones installed. In the meantime, he is waiting for a Crown Law Office ruling on the legality of telephone-to-course betting. , , The Australian Jockey Club plans to have the telephones installed near Dwyer’s stand. Permission has been given as a trial, and if successful the Australian Jockey Club plans to give other bookmakers similar facilities. The club controls racing at Randwick and Warwick Farm courses. The Sydney Turf Club, which has Canterbury and Rosehill courses under its control, has announced that it will not permit betting telephones at either of the courses. Bookmakers in Melbourne are hoping to have permission from clubs thereto install telephones for off-course betting. The telephones will be special ones fixed to take in-coming calls only.
