DESTRUCTION OF RABBITS
Council “Not Satisfied”
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 2. The Rabbit Destruction Council is still not satisfied with the speed with which open areas carrying rabbits are being brought under rabbit board control.
Noting this in its annual report today, the council goes on to say that it urged the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake) to set a date by which all owners of lands carrying rabbits must make a move to form a rabbit district or become attached to an existing one. “It was a disappointment to the council to be informed later by the Minister that the Government had decided that it could not approve the constitution of new rabbit districts without the support of the majority of farmers in the particular area concerned,” said the report.
The Minister had approved a number of extensions to districts during the year. The work in these had proceeded smoothly. During the year, seven new districts were constituted, comprising 1,644,400 acres. Extensions to 16, others had added another 861,640 acres.
