COTTON QUEEN COMES TO CHRISTCHURCH Parades At City Store Selected from over 7000 con? testants for her beauty, charm and intelligence, Britain’s “Cotton Queen,” Miss Angela Smith, will arrive at Harewood on Tuesday evening next on her final three days in New Zealand. Miss Smith, at present on a 3$ month tour, will model Cotton frocks on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday of next week in Hav’s Ltd Tea Rooms, and so important do Hay’s consider this outstanding visit the firm has taken the unusual step of closing their Tea and Luncheon Room for these three whole days and given it entirely over to the series of parades by the Cottoru Queen and her assistants * The Cotton fabrics from which these delightful frocks are made are completely stain resistant and require no ironing. Miss Smith, whose wardrobe consists of 200 garments, has found that to date not one of her garments has had to be pressed although they must have been unpacked hundreds of times. The wonderful tour is part of the prize won by Miss Smith, who before entering the contest was a model in a London warehouse Besides the world trip the prize included £lOOO spending monev. a personal wardrobe worth £250 and a year’s contract with the manufacturers of the cotton fabrics. The Cotton Queen has drawn thousands of interested womenfolk, and Christchurch people are urged to call at Hay’s next week to see this persqnal appearance—admission is free.
