Fencing In Australia

Hungarian fencers,' now new Australians, whose best weapon is the sabre, were well represented in that event at the Australian fencing championships in Brisbane. The title was won by A. Martonffy (Victoria), who fought for Australia* at the Olympic Games last year. L. Kovacs (Victoria), also an Olympic representative, was sixth, and L. Fadjyas, another Victorian and Olympic fencer, was eighth. G. McKenzie and P. Rizzuto (New South Wales)- were second and third. The men’s foil title was won by D. McKenzie (New South Wales) and two Queensland fencers, C. Drake and M. Sichel, were second and third. In the women’s foil, Miss B. McCreath and Miss D. O’Brien (Queensland) were first and second. Miss K. Baxter (New Soqth Wales) was third.

Garry Watford (New South Wales) one of the members of the Australian Universities team which toured New Zealand early this year, was fourth in the epee championship. The title was won by A. Vena (Victoria) and an Olympic representative, L. Smith (Queensland) was second. J. Simpson (New South Wales) was third.
