Trotting GRATTAN LOYAL LEADS SIRES OF BROOD MARES

Grattan Loyal headed the list of leading sires of brood mares for the first time in the season which ended on July 31. He had been near the top of the list during the previous five seasons. Rey de Oro, one of the most prominent sires on the list for many years had 27 winners of 48 races worth £14,432, La Mignon, Barravey, Golden Chimes, Bonnie Charles, Epsom Hall and Madam Peterson being his best winners.

Nelson Derby, sire of the dams of Glint, Brahman, Bedivus, Single Derby, Phantasy and Starwise, was sixth with 18 winners of 38 races worth £13,264. Wrack, with £12.116; Springfield Globe, with £10,789; Indianapolis, with £8267; Quite Sure, with £6991; Gaillard, with £6792; and Sandydale, with £6166, followed. Young Trainer R. G. Morris, who for some months trained at Greymouth, is now located at West Melton. Morris has three horses in work, but anticipates increasing his learn when he erects new boxes on his property.
