THE ART OF BEAUTY Women Should Take Care Of Their “Crown Of Glory”

[By

MARILYN FISHER and IVI RIIVES]

For centuries men have composed sonnets, musical and otherwise, glorifying womanhood and emphasising certain feminine characteristics. One particular facet of womankind that has been the subject of composers for decades is her hair, quite literally “a woman’s crown of glory.”

Its appeal may depend on its length or it may possess an unusual richness of colour, but whatever its attraction, lovely hair has created admiration for women. Its care and consideration, therefore, must never be overlooked.

Shining healthy hair is to be envied and its owner credited with the knowledge of proper hair care. Hair cosmetics, of course, play an important part in conditioning the hair but diet must be carefully considered as it is a vital factor in this beauty routine. If your hair is not being properly nourished with the essential health-giving vitamins it will not retain a lustrous natural sheen that is the birthright of every woman.

There are several varieties of shampoos and lotions available and ready to aid you with your problem locks. These preparations, along with careful attention,

will soon overcome problems such as flaky dandruff which often accompanies dryness. Excessive oiliness can be treated successfully with a shampoo especially created to combat this particular hair problem. Anything more serious ?uch as falling hair or severe cases of dandruff should always be discussed with a professional scalp specialist. These conditions may often arise from a vitamin deficiency and your doctor will givd you guidance and advice.

Now that you have established your hair type, treat it accordingly. Regular cleansing once weekly is average but what is average for some women is not suitable for others, and please remember never to use a shampoo that will not do the ultimate for your hair type. Another factor that must not be disregarded is the importance of rinsing your hair. If this is not done thoroughly it alone can create dandruff and a dry scalp. Traces of shampoo remaining in the hair any lustre pr shine that could exist. A “lift” for your looks and your outlook would be provided in the

coloured rinses that never change your hair shade but always highlight and add a delicious bit of interest. You all know, of course, the won&erful brightening and softening effect that lemon and vinegar rinses have on the hair. Permanent Wave

To encourage a permanent wave that has become rather lifeless and drab, brush and keep on brushing. This is a part of your routine that you could not possibly dispense with. Brushing should not merely consist of a lick and a promise but should involve vigorous brushing in all directions. With your head bent brush firmly from the base of the neck up and out. Do this same firm brushing from the sides to the back. You will find this beauty exercise most relaxing as well as being beneficial to healthier hair and scalp. Follow the

strands of hair to the very end as this distributes the natural scalp oils evenly. Now if you have faithfully followed a schedule for any length of time you will begin to notice rewarding results. Remember, hair definitely does respond to habit. Stage in the Routine

Styling may not have been much of a problem for grandmother but it is an all-important stage in your hair routine. So much depends on an attractive cut and done artistically, your individual styling is capable of accenting your best features. The operation is always done according to a basic face type. Study yours and then like a designer with a blueprint choose a hair style that will flatter. Above alll do not be afraid or too conservative when choosing a hair style—and keep versatility in mind. A versatile hair style is really an asset to the business woman who must be “office smart” yet would like a softer, prettier change for little dinner and theatre evenings. Illustrated, we have tried to keep in mind the various lengths, and designed suitable hair styles for each one. Next Week.—Grooming: Hints from your head to your toes!
