C.O.R.S.O. CASH APPEAL
£5060 Raised In\ Christchurch
Citizens of Christchurch contributed £5060 In the 1957 C.0.R.5.0. cash appeal, said the chairman of the Christchurch district C.0.R.5.0. committee (Mr E. C. Munt) at its annual meeting recently. He expressed appreciation at the generous response and thanked the 2000 members of Bible classes and secondary school pupils who had carried out house-to-house collections. • “Through the help of members of women’s institutes, Women’s Divisions of Federated Farmers, schools and an almost complete coverage of the country districts has been achieved, and the amount collected for country districts outside Christchurch was £1165.” said Mr Munt. Amounts contributed in country districts were:—Akaroa £55, Amberley £lOl, Darfield District £75. Kaiapoi £llB, Kaikoura £79, Lincoln £56, Lyttelton' £64, Oxford £llO, Rangiora £lB5, Sheffield £5O, Woodend £5. . It was reported that 92,094 good used garments and 6610 pairs of shoes had been sent overseas to refugees and displaced persons last year. In addition, 20 cases of hospital supplies, mostly for South-east Asia, and quantities of soft toys for distribution through the Save the Children Fund In Austraia and Western Germany had been sent away. Hundreds of books for a teachers’ training college in Indonesia supported by the World Council of Churches had been collected and sent. Officers elected were:— ‘ . ' Chairman, Mr E. C.
