GARAGEMEN REPORT ON MOTORISTS’ REACTION TO SHELL X-100 MULTIGRADE OIL

It is through the garagemen, from one end of New Zealand to the other, that Shell learn what the average motorist’s reaction is to the thermostatic X-100 Multigrade Oil. “Overwhelmingly enthusiastic,” is the report.

There appear to be still some points, however, that motorists are not clear on with regard to multigrade oil. Garagemen report that they are asked a good many questions about Shell X-100 Multigrade and the advantages. Listed is a sample of the range of questions that the average motorist asks about X-100 Multigrade, with answers that explain concisely what benefits the motorist gets from this oil. Q.: Exactly what is a “multigrade” oil? A.: A multigrade oil is one that meets fully more than one of the S.A.E. viscosity grades. Q.: What does 10W/30 mean? A.: It is the designation given to one of the Shell X-100 Multigrade Oils to indicate that it meets fully simultaneously S.A.E. 10W and S.A.E. 30. It also meets S.A.E. 20W. Q.: How does it differ from 20W/40? A.: 20W/40 is a rather heavier oil which meets fully simultaneous S.A.E. 20W and S.A.E. 40. The owner of a new car will find 10W/30 perfectly satisfactory, but the owners of older cars and of trucks prefer the heavier 20W/40. Q.: What are the main benefits of X-100 Multigrade Oil?
