"Auckland Star,” 26/6/57, says: “Ballerina Dazzles by her Artistry. THE TECHNICAL BRILLIANCE of Rowena Jackson is the brilliance of Frost and Moonlight; it is astonishing, exhilarating in itself, and completely dazzling.” Wellington “Evening Post.” 2/7/57: GAIETY, COLOUR IN MANY BALLET ITEMS.

Those who thought ballet consisted of moonlight scenes, the traditonal white tutus and haunting music, were surprised last night at the immense variety of the programme at the ballet performance of Rowena Jackson and Bryan Ashbridge. True, classical ballet at its best was portrayed in excerpts from “Les Sylphides,” “Swan Lake,” and “The Sleeping Beauty,” but the audience was delighted with the sense of humour expressed in “Facade” and “Coppelia ” ■The gay satire on the early 1920’s with Bryan Ashbridge and Derek Westlake in “Popular Song,” followed by humorous interpretations of the old-time polka and the Charleston, brought chuckles of mirth from the audience.
