S.I. SNOOKER TITLES
Tournament To End Today
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, July 4.
After to-night’s play ip the South Island snooker championships at Oamaru four of the 1? contestants remain. They are A. J. Rudduck (Oamaru), with two lives and L. Stout (Wellington). W. Dilks (Canterbury), and P. Sincoek (Otago) each with one life.
Main interest today centred on the meeting of the two unbeaten players, Dilks and Rudduck. It was a hard fought match, with Rudduck emerging the winner by three frames to one. In view of Dilks’s feat in taking a life from the New Zealand champion, Stout, the previous night, Rudduck’s victory was meritorious. Stout had a comfortable win tonight over G. Geddes (Oamaru) who was eliminated. Geddes won the South Island billiards title last week. The tournament will end to-? morrow. Rudduck will play Sincock and immediately afterwards Stout will meet Dilks. Should Rudduck win, he will go forward to the final with both lives intact. If he loses Sincock will go forward to the final, ahd Rudduck will play the winner of the StoutDilks game. Results:
L. Stout beat G. Geddes, 52-44 (20min), 62-32 (23min). Stout’s best breaks were, 22, 17, 16, 14 and 10. Geddes’s best were 23 and 16. A. J. Rudduck beat W. Dilks, 44-53 (30min), 55-41 (28min), 55-37 (17min), 68-30 (23mim). Rudduck’s best breaks were 34, 16 and 11. Dilks’s best were, 14, 13 and 12.
