86 Tons Of Butter In 24 Hours
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 pm.) CHARD (Somerset), May 21. Using churns made in New Zealand, a British firm today broke its own world record to produce 86 tons of butter in 24 hours. The previous record was 74 tons. A team of 100 men and women at the Wiltshire United Dairies factory, claimed to be the world’s biggest butter works, churned into butter the equivalent of 450,000 gallons of milk. The four 9ft 6in high churns used to set the new record were made from kauri.
Publicity Director’s Death (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MELBOURNE, May 22. Mr Percy Crawford, veteran publicity director arid talent scout of Melbourne’s Tivoli Theatre, died in hospital today, aged 70. In his 56 years With the theatre, he travelled England, the United States, New Zealand and Continental Europe seeking variety acts to bring to Australia. A great believer in variety and its capacity to outlive newer entertainments, Mr Crawford once was told: “Vaudeville is dead.” He replied: “Have you ever stood outside the ‘Tiv? and seen the mourners go in?”
