680 ARRESTS IN CRIME CLEAN-UP
(N.Z. Press Association—Convrtght) DURBAN, May 21. A special police squad detailed to clean up crime in Durban has arrested more than 680 people this month. Foreign consuls recently warned seamen that Durban was a dangerous port. About 40 seamen have been killed or seriously injured in the last few months.
Treasure Hunt.—Archaeologists are digging for treasure beneath the Tower of London. The reputed treasure belonged to Sir John Barkstead, a jeweller, who became Governor of the Tower during the rule of Oliver Cromwell 300. years ago. He was accused of extorting vast sums from aristocrats and on the restoration of the Monarchy he was executed without revealing the whereabouts of the treasure, valued then at £40,000.—-London.
