Auction prices on Monday were:— High-grown broken orange pekoe, 260 cents per lb: good medium broken orange pekoe, 200; medium liquoring broken orange pekoe, 132; medium liquoring broken pekoe, 120: medium liquoring pekoe tannings, 195; medium liquoring orange pekoe, 225; low medium broken orange pekoe, 128; low medium pekoe tannings, 185; low medium orange pekoe. 200; low medium pekoe, 160. Duty, 65 cents.
Geophysical Year.— The council of the Royal Society of New Zealand will thank the Government for its support for New Zealand’s International Geophysical Year work. It decided this at its annual meeting in Wellington yesterday after hearing reports that the New Zealand I.G.Y. programme was proceeding well. Mr M. A. F. Barnett said that, proportionately, New Zealand’s effort compared well with any other country’s, including the United States.—(P.A.)
