FIRM ON FORGERY CHARGE
Change Of Ownership Papers For Car
(Neto Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 3. A charge of forgery was brought against Curran Motors. LtcL, of 407 Broadway, Newmarket, in the Auckland Magistrate's Court today. The firm pleaded not guilty, and at the end of the dav-long hearing Mr M. C. Astley. SAL, reserved his decision until next Friday. The charge is that in December. 1954. the company knowingly made a false document—a notice of change of ownership of a motor-vehicle purporting to be endorsed “M. EL Weather ley”— with the intention that it should be acted upon as genuine, thereby committing forgery.
Mary Elizabeth Weatherley. married, said she bought a car . from_ Curran Motors on October 4, 1954. She had it about a week, and then it gave trouble. Her husband took it back to Curran Motors in December for repairs, and borrowed another car. The understanding was that if this car was satisfactory they would keep it. However, it too gave trouble.
Witness said she did not give the company authority to dispose of the car. The only papers she ever signed in connexion with the car were the hire purchase documents.
Jimmy Ahu, of Waikokowai. near Rotowaro, said he bought the first car mentioned by Mrs Weatherley from Curran Motors on December 23, 1954. It gave trouble, however, so Curran brought down another car and took this one back. Patrick Thomas Curran, man-

The firm had nothing in its possession from which the signature might have been copied, as the hire purchase agreement was lodged with a finance company after the sale to Mrs Weatherley.
