Scott McLeod Approved

(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 2.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee today voted 9-6 to approve the controversial nominaion of Mr Scott McLeod as United States Ambassador to Ireland. Criticism of Mr McLeod, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, has centred on his handling of loyalty and security cases in the State Department.

President Eisenhower nomin-, ated Mr McLeod, who is 41, for the post and all seven Republican Senators on the Foreign Relations' Committee today endorsed the nomination.

Six Democratic Senators vcted against and two Democrats, Senators Mike Mansfield (Montana) and Russell Long (Louisiana), voted with the Republicans. The nomination now goes to the full Senate for confirmation.
