Five Sons Of Pasha
(N.Z. Press Association Copyright) ‘Rec. 11 p.m.) RABAT, May 3. Guards armed with sub-machine guns today stood by all entrances to the fortress-like palace of the El Glaoui family, after five sons of the former powerful Pasha of Marrakesh had been arrested on charges of anti-national activities.
It was first reported that they had been kidnapped. But the Moroccan Interior Ministry issued a communique late last night to announce their arrest, without saying where they were being held.
The Pasha’s widow, a daughter of the former Grand Vizier, and two of her daughters, are believed to be stjll in the palace. Six other persons were also detained. The official announcement said substantial financial means had been organised and used to serve enterprises of a nature to harm the security of the State.
