The Minister of Police (Mr D. J. Eyre) paid his first visit to the Christchurch Central Police Station yesterday. He was conducted through the station by the acting-superintendent (Chief Inspector E. J. C. Hay). In his capacity as Minister of Tourist and Health Resorts, Mr Eyre called at the Government Tourist Office, where he had discussions with the manager (Mr W. A. Pickford) and members of the staff. Mr Eyre, accompanied by his wife, later went to Hanmer Springs. They will go to Maruia Springs today for the official opening of the new baths. Dr. William van Dersal, a senior officer of the United States Soil Conservation Service, will arrive in New Zealand soon. He is* expected to be in Christchurch on May 14 and 15. Mr I. L. Bonifant. of Gisborne, has been appointed assistant manager of Dalgety and Company in Adelaide, South Australia. He will begin his new duties on September 4. Mr Bonifant served in the Second World War as an infantry commander, returning to New Zealand with the rank of brigadier. After holding a military appointment in the South Island in the post-war period, he resumed service with Dalgety and Company as manager of the Gisborne branch—(P.A.) Mr John Andrew, of Hyde, president of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers, will leave Dunedin next week for the United States. He will preside at the tenth anniversary conference of the federation at Purdue (Indiana) which will be attended by delegates from most countries outside the Soviet bloc. Mr D. N. Melrose, formerly postmaster at Lumsden, has taken up his duties as postmaster at Lyttelton.
