GROWTH CHAMBER INSTALLED
Crop Research Division An artificially-controlled growth chamber has been installed by the Crop Research Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research The apparatus is now in operation. It will be used by the cereal section to accelerate the early generations of promising crosses and the production of varieties resistant to specific diseases. Dr. F. Gfeller, of the cerea] division of the Canadian Department of Agriculture, provided details of the construction: illumination and cooling of similar chambers used successfully in Canada. The plants are grown under flueroscent light for 18 hours a day. In Canada, it has been possible to grow five generations of cereals within 14 months.
