RIVERTON MEETING

Great Western To Capet

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 21. The Riverton Racing Club opened its Easter three-day meeting ■ yesterday in overcast weather. The track was dead, and half-way through the programme was cutting out when it rained. There was a large attendance and the totalisator handled on-course £81,478 10s, compared with £86,553 on the corresponding day last year. The winning double—Mijiji and Rhythinonic—paid £45 9s for £l. Ironside finished third in the Great Western Steeplechase, but he was disqualified because his rider, A Cowan, was unable to draw the correct weight. It was found that Accountant (H. T. Anderton) was hanging badly running to the three furlongs in the Aparima Handicap, and that he caused Irish Wings (L. W. Hare) to be checked and lose several lengths. Shortly after the start of the second division of the Longwood Handicap. Loch Amber (G. W. Robertson) broke a fetlock and was destroyed. When Chief Light fell in the Great Western, his rider, D. M. Te Au, suffered slight concussion. Results:— TRIAL HANDICAP, of £350; six furlongs.—First Division: 11, 11 DARBY (15A) 8-6 G. W. Wright 1: 8. 7 King Cassock (1) car. 8-7 G. E.
