PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING

Industries Fair Display Mrs A. Rose presided at the April meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society and welcomed Mrs M. Gould, a new member, to the committee. A report from the meeting said that a kitchen-dining room will be set up at the Industrial Fair showing safety appliances recommended by the Plunket Society; that the Canterbury and Westland provincial confeirence will be held at Akaroa in August; that a meeting of representatives from the Plunket Radio-Telephone Appeal Committees from Ashburton to Kaikoura had met recently in the Plunket rooms to make further plans for the appeal oh May 14. Arrangements were made to hold the annual meeting on July 29, when Dr. Neil Begg, medical director of the society, will be the guest speaker. Miss Y. S. Park, of Korea, who is working with the Y.W.C.A. in her own country, recently visited Karitane Hospital and was most interested in the work being done by the Plunket Society and the hospital, the report said.

Miss J. Horner, matron of Karitane Hospital, reported that the hospital had been very busy during the month. Her report was as follows: mothers admitted 18, babies 30; mothers discharged 19, babies 29; twins admitted, two sets; premature babies admitted 13 and five discharged. Miss B. Helliwell, charge sister at the branch, reported for the month that there were some cases of mumps and measles in the district. Number of new baby cases 277; number of visits to babies in homes 1883; number of visits of babies to rooms 3136; mileage incurred in home visiting in the districts 2268.

Donations were received for Karitane Hospital from the Oxford branch £5O, and the Lyttelton branch £lO 10s.
