BUTTER SAMPLES SELL WELL

N.Z. Stall At Home Exhibition (From the London Correspondent of "The Press"). r LONDON, April 15. Just more than 6$ tons of New Zealand butter in 60,444 ilb samples were’ sold from the New Zealand Dairy Products Marketing Commission section of the New Zealand stand at the Ideal Home Exhibition at Olympia last month. They realised £2014 £173 more than last year’s sales. Cheese samples were also keenly sought by British housed wives and nearly 6j tong were sold in 55,899 samples realising £1397 or £670 more than last year. Thus, total butter and cheese sales brought the commission £3412 or £844 more than last year. But in goodwill and advertising the value to New Zealand could be greatly in excess of this. Meanwhile the advertising campaign for New Zealand butter and cheese continues unabated throughout Britain. The drive is in the form of big advertisements in the national and provincial ‘ press, magazines, television “plugs” of 30 seconds, posters and shop demonstrations. In two women’s magazines with a total circulation of nearly six million copies there will appear • this month half page colour advertisements showing cows griming on verdant pasture With Hush and a mountain—not Mt Egniont —in the background. They state that by buying New Zealand Cheddar cheese the housewife is giving the family “extra goodness.” The advertisement adds: “This cheese is rich in those nutrients that are absolutely vital for grow- ' ing children. No wonder—for it takes about a gallon of milk to make one pound of cheddar cheese. And that explains why you get ‘extra goodness’ in New Zealand cheddar. For this is the cheddar made from the milk of herds that feed all through the year on sunlit pastures.” The advertisement concludes by urging the housewife to ask for New Zealand cheddar by name. At the honey section of the New Zealand stand a total of £832 was realised. Of this total £379 was taken from the sale of 6d samples.
