New Auckland Theatre

Queen street, Auckland, is to have a new picture theatre—the first to be built on the street for about 28 years. The theatre, a small, luxury house, is already under construction next to the St. James’ Theatre, on the site formerly occupied by the Auckland Meat Company. A spokesman for Kerridge Theatres, Ltd., said that the new theatre would be built on the lines of art theatres overseas and would seat about 700 persons. The screening policy had yet to be determined. The increased popularity of Continental and “art” films in recent years suggests that this type of programme might be screened at the new theatre.
