DEVELOPMENT OF LAKE SUMNER

Circular To Section Applicants The committee of the Lake Sumner Improvement Association has agreed to the circular to be sent to the 496 applicants for sections on the shore of the lake by the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr T. W. Preston), advising that the sections will cost up to £2OO each.

The committee did not agree to the proposal that a deposit of at least £lOO would be required on the allotment of up to 300 sections. At its meeting on Tuesday the committee resolved that a reduction in the deposit be sought, according to the chairman (Mr A. R. Blank). Mr Blank said that were the full price paid at the outset the need for subsequent loans to improve road access to' the lake might be avoided. The Crown Lands Department was required

to meet the roading costs to the requirements of the Waipara County Council. If the roading cost less than expected then the section prices would be reduced, he said. A draft of the association’s constitution was submitted and approved, and arrangements were made to have the association incorporated as a society. Among the aims of the association were: the assistance of the county council in the control of the area; the preservation of the native flora and fauna; prevention of the erection of sub-stan-dard dwellings; and the measures to see that the peace and tranquility of the area were not unduly disturbed, said Mr Blank.
