NEW DENTAL OFFICER

Post Taken Up In Christchurch

Dr. R. B. Nevin, ,the newlyappointed principal dental officer for the Christchurch health district, took up his duties this week as representative of the Division of Dental Hygiene in the Canterbury area. Dr. Nevin .was an industrial chemist before be studied dentistry at the Dent. 1 School at the University of Otago. He became a dental officer with the New Zealand Army at Trentham in 1948.

For eight years since then Dr. Nevin has been a lecturer in basic dental sciences at the Dental School. In 1955 he was in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar to do research on the action of fluoride on the enamel of teeth and to investigate the protective action by using radioactive fluoride. Dr. Nevin graduated Bachelor of Science from Canterbury University College and Doctor of Dental Surgery at Otago University. He is also an associate member of the New Zealand Institute of Industrial Chemists. He succeeds Mr J. A. O’Gorman, who left the post last September for a position in Britain.
