Pope On Newspaper Ethics
(N.Z. Press Association Copyright) VATICAN CITY, April 16. The Pope has warned against using a newspaper scoop based on calumny and scandal, the British United Press has reported. “A whisper, harmless, perhaps, though unwarranted, is blown up to a one-inch headline, and what havoc it can wreak in family life, the lives of individuals and nations,” the Pope said. “A scoop is not worth the deep sense of shame that should come to one guilty of such conduct.” The Pope made his remarks on journalistic ethics during an audience yesterday to 21 United States [newspapermen visiting Europe.
