Bible Class Boys' And Girls 9 Easter Camps

Easter camps are being held in Canterbury by the Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregational Churches this week-end. Two Methodist camps have 550 Bible class members, while the Presbyterians have 103 boys near Dunsandel and 55 girls at Kaiapoi. The Presbyterian boys are constructing a permanent building for themselves beside the Selwyn river, seven miles from Dunsandel. At present, the concrete block walls are six feet high, and any spare time during the busy camp is being devoted to the meeting hall. The Junior Cup is an important feature of the camp for the junior and intermediate boys. Study activities, sports and a cross-country run contribute points for the successful team. There will be a visitors’ day for the sports today. A camp for Presbyterian girls at Kaiapoi is keeping to a similar programme of study and recreation.

Officers of the boys’ camp are: secretary, Mr I. F. Bush; chairman, Mr lan Lennie; camp “dad,” the Rev. Howard W. Johnston, and the chief speaker, the Rev. J. Lewis.

The Rev. D. A. Blyth is acting as minister to the girls’ camp, convened by Sister Mollie McChesney. Miss R. Marton is camp mother. Sisters Vivienne Sinclair and Helen Hercus are helping with camp activities. Methodist Camps

The Methodist girls’ camp is being held at Loburn, where there are a permanent hall, washroom and kitchen built by the Bible classes. Their leader is the Rev.

Phyllis Guthardt, the first woman minister of the Methodist Church The Methodist Young Men’s Bible classes have a permanent building in the Amberley Domain There are 310 young men there camping under canvas. The build, ing is used for meals, meetings and recreation.

The Rev. L. V. Willing is padre for the camp, and the camp captain is Mr J. Prior.

Programmes at the Methodist camps include study, discussion groups, films, recreation, and a dawn service on Sunday morning. At Winchester. 40 representatives of South Island Congregational Churches are in camp.

Thirty South Island represent!, fives of the Church of Christ are attending an Easter camp in conjunction with the Dominion conference in Wellington.
