W.E.A. CENTRE APPEAL

Hopes For New Building

The Workers’ Educational Association hopes to buy a central property, such as a large twostoreyed house with sufficient land for development, which can be remodelled to an administrative, social and activity centre for its work. At the official opening of the association’s 1957 session on Wednesday evening the president (Mr A. A. Dingwall) announced an appeal for funds for the building project. “We want a building which will contain offices, a small theatre, lecture room and cafeteria, and which will be a central home for classes meeting in many places,’’ Mr Dingwall said. In recent years the association had experienced increasing demand for its services, which meant that it must be better equipped and more efficient.

A building fund committee had been appointed last year and had taken preliminary steps for the project. “A Christchurch firm has given £5O to the building fund, making the present total £1250. The target is £10,000,” Mr Dingwall said.
