JUDGING OF STOCK

Young Farmers Compete

The Canterbury Council of Young Farmers’ Clubs held its annual stock judging competition in the Ashburton Show Grounds on Wednesday in wet weather. Ten teams from Waimate, Timaru, Mid-Canterbury, Christchurch, and North Canterbury competed. The Pendarves Young Farmers’ Club was responsible for the arrangements.

The Canterbury council’s challenge trophy for the champion stock judging team was awarded to the Christchurch B team.

The judges were:—Beef cattle. Mr C Welsford; dairy cattle, Mr W Skivington; pigs, Mr W. Carr; horses, Mr P. Hanrahan; fat sheep, Mr G. Lysaght; Corriedales. Mr R. Robinson; Romneys, Mr R, J. Low; Southdowns, Mr J. Grigg. The placed teams were:— Christchurch B (G. McGinness, beef cattle, 225; J. King, dairy cattle, 259; T. Plummer, pigs, 252; J. Johns, horses. 203; Greenwood, fat sheep, 194; R. Gilbert, Corriedales, 258; A. Taylor, Romneys, 213; M. Johns, Southdowns, 278), 1882 points; Christchurch C (B.
