HAIR AND STRING IN SUGAR

More Hygienic Bags Sought A remit asking that manufacturers be required to pack sugar in more hygienic bags than the present open weave type, was passed on the casting vote of the president at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes yesterday. When presenting the remit for the Okains Bay Institute, Miss N. Mpore said that hairs and pieces of string were too often found in sugar packed in open weave bags. “I have had it pointed out to me that improved packing would put up the cost of sugar, but, I understand, the price is going up in any case,” she said. Miss Moore suggested that plastic bags should be put inside sugar bags to ensure more hygienic packing.
