ARCHITECTS’ VISIT

President Of Royal Institute

Mr K. M. B. Cross, president of the Royal Institute of British Architects (London) and the secretary (Mr C. D. Spragg) will visit Christchurch next week on a world tour of societies allied to the institute. They are now in the North Island, and will arrive in Christchurch on Sunday, April 28. After leaving New Zealand they will

go to Australia and Canada, and to a convention in the United States. In Christchurch, they will be entertained by the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and they will be given albums of photographs of the branch’s work. The branch president (Mr C. B. Wells) will drive them to Timaru on Tuesday, April 30. Mr Cross became president of the institute last July. He entered private practice in 1919 after training in articles to his father and at the Cambridge University School of Architecture. He has done work for the Westminster City Council and many other well-known English local bodies, as well as some of the guilds and companies of London.

Mr Spragg has been secretary of the institute since 1945, and before that was assistant-secretary for 19 years. He has, throughout his career, been closely associated with the development of the institute.
