Millions of British television 'hewers heard a Communist, Mr Leo McGree, Merseyside secretary ct the Confederation of the Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions, * 3 y that Merseyside strikers “could not care less if Cammel Lairds (a big shipbuilding firm) go bankrupt.” Mr McGree was being interviewed by Christopher Chataway, the former Olympic runner, who investigating for the 8.8. C. the sympathy strikes in the area caused by the boilermakers’ dispute.

Mr McGree: “We could not care less if Cammell Lairds go bankrupt. We shall go and work for somebody else, but you understand that with every employer who goes bankrupt other employers make profit on his bankruptcy.” . So you think you can bring as many firms to bankruptcy as you like and there will always be others to employ you?—lt’s not our intention to bring firms to bankruptcy. It is our intention to abolish the capitalist system of society and put them all bankChataway asked if he thought that all his members would support his philosophy, which was based on his Communist principles. Mr McGree said it was based on his trade union principles and he was convinced that the majority of members appreciated the stand now being made by the boilermakers.
