Art Boom.—New York city is in the midst of an art boom of unparelled dimensions. A “New York Times” correspondent. Clarence Dean, reports that the demand for paintings has caused a five-fold increase in the number of art galleries in the area in the last decade.. There are now 180 galleries serving New Yorkers, and they are selling pictures to an ever-widening clientele. Buyers include not only people of wealth, but housewives who save steadily over a period of time to obtain money to buy a painting and youngsters who purchase art works on the instalment plan.— New York.
